Biracial hair question?

I'm at a loss how to style my 3 y.o's hair. It is soft and curly at the same time. It's beautiful but VERY hard to comb out. Should I use a pick? What kind of comb? How do I start a part? There's not a lot of structure to her hair so I usually just put it back in a ponytail. Any ideas?

Biracial hair question?

To second the others comments, I would like to add that her hair probably does NOT need to be washed everyday. Try washing it every four days so that it does not dry out. If you know how to 'plat' that would be helpful do do at night so it wont tangle.

If you can, just trim the edges but dont cut it. It is easier to manage the longer it gets.

Hang in there...and dont be afraid to enlist in the help of your child's inlaws....they are probably more able to deal with it than you are and can provide lots of valuable tips and help.

if you go to walmart and you see another biracial child, don't be afraid to ask her mother what she uses.

Most people understand and wont be offended at all.

GOOD LUCK she will thank you later for all your hard work - i promise

Ask some one at your local salon they deal with hair issues all the time and have great advice.

Biracial hair question?

Picks are a little more gentle on the hair. I'd recommend that. Maybe pigtails or a ponytail?

Biracial hair question?

just keep on combing it that's what i do

Biracial hair question?

A large tooth comb may help. Or a brush that has alot of give. Start at the bottom and work your way up. Holding a section of hair at a time can also help. There is also a spray you can get that will help with the tangles. Good luck

Biracial hair question?

Biracial hair question?

While your child is young and her hair is still short, you'll have to always do the ponytail technique; find a good hair gel to keep her hair smooth. ALWAYS use cute earrings and a really cute scrunchie. When her hair is longer you'll have to put her hair into 5 or 6 big ponytails for her to sleep at night. In the morning her hair will be more manageable to work with. You'll still have to use alot of gel and more often than not, you'll be resorting to the "pulled back ponytail" look. You'll find that when she hits about 9 y.o. you'll have to be really skilled with a curling iron or flat iron.. get your practice now... you'll need it.

If her hair is soft, you can detangle with a spray bottle filled with water and a wide toothed comb. Rub a little bit of petroleum jelly throughout the hair, and then blow it straight with a hair dryer. This will give you more options for styling.

Biracial hair question?

I have a baby sister and her hair is the same way, try to use a babys comb (u can find at walmart) or just a reg. hair brush, children are always going to cry when you try to comb out their hair its because their skulls are so sensitive so you can ethier comb it out fast and have her cry a little or be very gental and slowly comb it out ...ethier way she might cry. Part it in the middle thats alway cute and you can add to the style by putting barrets in her hair or putting it up in pig-tails, pulling the front part of her hair back in to a small ponytail so it keeps her hair out of her face. You can have a lot of fun doing her hair if you have the time to devote to it, if not just do a barret pulling the hair out of the face.

hope this helps

Biracial hair question?

I know a biracial women and she uses very little vasaline and water, the hard bristle brushes for ponytails and a rat tail comb for her parts, she usually parts her hair down the middle of her head when doing her hair. I could ask any further questions if you want..

Biracial hair question?

You did not mention how long her hair is. so, I would suggest the following and I have found it works:

When you shampoo condition with Pantene conditioner and you can even leave some in the hair. This should remove most if not all tangles and make combing the hair easier and less painful for the child.

As far as keping moisture in the hair, if you don't use something the hair will dry out and be more difficult to manage, try:

Pink Oil Sheen conditioner, simply rub some in your hands, apply to hair while still damp and comb/pick through--I find this to be too heavy for some childrens hair, but it amy work for you. Sttart with a small bottle and see how it works.

Or: Soft Sheen Frizz Free

When you say pick I hope you mean the plastic rubberized kind, or simply by a large toothed comb so you can comb through thoroughly.

Or:

spray olive oil, which will add moisture and not leave the hair too weighed down or sticky.

How often are you washing the child's hair? If daily PLEASE stop now. Probably once a week is more than enough. If you was it everyday you wash away the natural oils the scalp produces.

A ponytail is fine--if you do not know how to braid. If you don't you might want to go to the local beauty college and have them teach you how to braid. Two french braid down the side back of the head is sufficient. I would not leave the hair loose to be slept on.Otherwise, if the child sleeps on the loose hair you are going to have a battle every morning trying to comb out hair that has matted from being slept on lose.

Finally, please use covered rubber bands for the pony tail, otherwise you will cause the hair to break off.

Biracial hair question?

My daughter is biracial and her hair texture is also soft and curly. I like to joke and say she have moms hair on the ends and dads hair by the root. I wash her hair 2 times a week, because washing it every day will cause it to be dry. Washing the hair twice a week works great for their hair. Every night before she go to bed I plat her hair. Which mean some kind of braid even if it is one big braid. I always apply water to her hair before I attempt to comb it. This is a must. Once it is wet if I usually go two ways if I am going for the curly look I load the her hair up with pink oil mosturizer ( you can find this at walgreens in a pink bottle). once the pink oil is applied it is more easy to detangle. I always use a smaller comb to start at the tips and detangle ( I noticed the problem with their hair being tangled is the lint on the ends that make it tangled). Once the hair is all untangled I use a little moose on the hair. The moose help their curls stay like beautiful curls and not turn into frizz. Now at this point I use a hard bristle brush to brush the hair in a ponytail. You can also part the hair if you do this use a wide tooth comb, it is called a natural comb, because they used to use it in the 70's to comb out the natural. Once the hair is in a ponytail little more moose to the ends and seperate the curls with you fingers. Now if you want to do barrets and ponytails don't wet the hair as much and apply pink lotion. Doing the same process to untangle the hair part the hair and put it in ponytails. Now take two sections and twist the hair and apply barrets at the tip. Oh yea when you shampoo I love to use Dark and Lovely and for conditioner Motions Detangling Shampoo for fine hair. And when you dry their hair just squeeze the water out because rubbing the towel on the hair make it more frizzy. Good luck you will be a pro in no time. My husband is almost as good as me now with managing her hair.
