I should hot comb it instead? I am trying to grow it out and I think the relaxers are making it thin.
I have short curly hair and I usually relax it straight but I have to relax it often do you think?
I had my hair hot combed until I got my first relaxer at age 15. Too much of either can severely damage your hair. Being that your hair is short, I wouldn't suggest a hot comb. It is very difficult to hot comb short hair without burning both your scalp and fingers. On the other hand, relaxing your hair too often will definitely make it thin. To keep a straight style, relax it only once every couple of months. Using a deep conditioner often will maintain your hair's health and also help keep it straight longer. Do not use a blow dryer and avoid styles that require heat applications too often. For routine washing and styling, there is a line of products called Advanced Techniques Straight and Sleek sold by Avon. I have been using these products for a couple of years now (since it was first introduced) for both my daughter (9yrs. old) and myself and we both have long, thick, and very healthy hair. (I used to have a short tapered style for 10 years) This line is designed for relaxed or natural hair and straightens the hair without chemical processing. I've only used it on relaxed hair and it straightens new growth so well that you can wait much longer between relaxers. There are also styling products in this line that helps to accomplish a straight, healthy style.

If you have short Thick curly hair, I'd say you can relax it, but if you have short Thin curly hair, a relaxer will last a long time and you won't have to do it as often. However, all chemicals do damage. Hot combs can burn your hair out. In the end, it's whatever makes you feel comfortable. Don't you just hate how we have to conform to the ideology of long straight hair?

No. You only do touch ups on the new growth. When you hot comb it apply Carrot Oil Cream to your scalp and hair. Message your hair and scalp with the Carrot Oil Cream at least twice a week. Dont use a blow dryer. Blow dryers are bad for our hair, will cause hair to become dry and brittle and break off. Just need a light pressing.

I would stop the relaxing. Relaxing our hair is really not the best thing to do. Relaxers are damaging to hair.
If you want it straight, just blow it dry then flat iron your hair. Try to wear the 'wrap' style and try to not use too much heat on it.
My daughter has naturally curly hair and she is always doing something to it to make do what is not meant to do. She is 26, so she just recently had some color put in it but she is blow drying and flat ironing.
She cuts her hair to grow it back out. (I did the same thing but NO MORE). Natual is always better.
Wear your hair natural and it will grow. I used to do relaxers and all the fake hair for braids. I am now wearing my hair in locs (dreadlocks) and I love it. It is growing and there is no breakage. More importantly, my hair is healthy.
Locs are not for everyone but it is catching on.
Good luck!

Been there - done that!
Try (if you really like it straight) to let it dry naturally and flat iron it until it grows out some...
Then you can spend the money on the Japanese Rebonding (perm. straightner)
If you feel that you have to use a chemical relaxer - try only doing this once every six months because of the damage it causes to your hair
And yes - too many chemicals can thin your hair out as well as your diet, stress level and a number of other things.
