i cant eat in there drink nor comb my hair thats supposed to be done in the bathroom and eating is for in the kitchen the (she) tells me and i cant let any dirty clothes pile or nothing and my sisters is a pig sty whats the deal i dont get i am older but whats that matter huh help me out i need it thanks?

My daughter is allowed to mess up one room and that is HER room. We call it her "creative chaos". She strives better in a room that is a little bit more messy. I think every child, especially teenagers need a designated space where they can be themselves- there own PERSONAL SPACE. I think your parents are a little too controlling. I mean, it IS their house and if they dont want you to eat or drink in there- I could totally understand that. But not letting you comb your hair in your room...that is just plain silly. Although I dont agree with the double standard of letting your younger sister mess up her room and not you- I can kind of see where they are comming from. Perhaps they want you as the older sibling to set a good example for her. But the truth is.. Children who live in more controlling enviorments tend to rebel instead of conform to the ideals of there parents. And by writing this question...I think your are more of the rebelling type. THe bottom line is, you need your personal space and you should assert your independence. Do understand that parents work very hard to give there children a good home- so I would abide by the "No food and drink in your room" rule. Protest a little but cave a little. tHat way they see that you understand where they are comming from.

As for the reason why she is doing this, it may seem like she's nagging but reallt she is doing this to help you keep your room tidy. I never had any of those restrictions and let me tell you what happened: No matter how hard I tried to keep food on my plate, there were always crumbs that escaped. Everytime I brushed my hair, ny hair that broke off ould go on my floor. Each time I chucked down some dirty clothes and thought "I'll do that later" the pile got bigger and bigger until I had no clothes to wear!!
So, please don't fret too much: she's helping you, not trying to be a pain in the buttocks! I know it seems annoying but be thankful you don't have to vaccum your room every few days like I did because otherwise I would've been walking through my own filth!

Just like me....it not only looks better that way, but its alot healthier too when everything is clean. I mean they do go abit over board with brushing your hair and all...but we all have our things. Just deal with it while you live with them, because theres no point in trying to change it , as they already have set their ways. But one day you will live on your own and be able to do as you wish. But for now, enjoy being young and listen to your parents...they know best for you, even when you think they have no idea what they are talking about..they were your age once too! they do know whats goin on...they are older and wiser adn they love you! Some parents are extreme in wanting a perfect house, others just want to keep it reasonably clean. I think you'll have to negotiate something that will work for both of you. If you don't you'll hear the"This is my house and as long as you live here you'll do as I say." So I suggest you proof to your mom that if you eat in your room, you will take back the dishes to the kitchen and clean up any crumbs and such. If you brush your hair in your room, you will make sure that there are no stray hairs flying around. Keep your end of the bargain and your mom will most likely cooperate. If you're defiant, she will react defensively and nothing will be accomplished. Also, know that someday you'll be on your own and then you can do as you please.

As you get older you will appreciate your mother making you keep your room clean because it will be natural for you to keep your whole house clean as an adult. Eating in the bedroom does two things; first, it secludes you from the rest of the family at meal time and secondly, it leaves food and dirty dishes in your room. If you don't want to clean your room, you're not going to take your dishes out of there once you're done with them and the room will go from messy to filthy. You're not a pig and should have no desire to live in your filth.
Brushing your hair in your room leaves hair all over the place and when vaccuuming, the hair gets tangled over the brush on the vaccuum, making it break. I'm sure your parents don't want to buy a new vaccuum every few months, so just keep the loose hairs confined to the bathroom.
Why would you want dirty clothes laying on the floor? Your friends come over and you have to tell them to step over the shirt that has sweat stains, the socks that smell like your feet, the pants that you spilled a bowl of soup on because you insisted on eating in your room, and your dirty underwear. If I had to do that, I wouldn't be a freind that came over to your house to hang out.
With your sisters room being dirty, parents are much much more receptive to your thoughts and opinions if you TALK to them, not yell or get an attitude. Don't say 'mom, its completely unfair for me to have to keep my room clean when she (your sister) lives in a pig sty," that won't get you anywhere. Instead, I suggest you go with "mom, I think she should have the same responsibility of keeping her room clean."

Also, you have been entrusted with the responsibility of your room. Its really hard to earn the respect of your parents for bigger things in life, such as borrowing their car, if you can't take care of the simple things that you've been given- in this case, your room.

As for not eating in your room, or combing your hair only in the bathroom, well, that's your mother's rules. It's your parents' home, and you need to follow whatever rules they put down. As for your dirty clothes, either get a hamper for them, or take them directly to the laundry room. I used to just hate how my Mom and Dad were always picking on me to tidy up my room and keep my laundry done. Now that I have my own home I can understand what my Mom and Dad were trying to get through to me. It is important to keep your spaces tidy because your room/home is a reflection of who you are. I'm not saying what you HAVE is a reflection of who you are... I'm saying how you keep the things you have is. I'm not a super rich person by any means but I take great pride in what I do have and I'm grateful for everything I have been blessed with. Do you want your messy room to be a reflection of who you are ? ...to me that looks like someone who is spoiled and takes what they have for granted. Now I thank my Mom and Dad for having such high standards. My home isn't always perfect ...I have a husband %26amp; and dog ( they are a messy bunch) but I do take time to make sure that everything is in their place at the end of the day and if someone came over for a surprise visit I wouldn't be embarassed at the state of my home. This might not be something that you will understand until you have your own home but it's just something to think about.
