Weird haiir problem!?

Why is it that every time I wash my hair, it ends up being super dry the very next day??? And some days, no matter how much I try to comb my hair down it keeps puffing up! How do I get it to stop doing that?

Weird haiir problem!?

Hey Me, the problem you're experiencing is that your shampoo is far too drying on your hair and in its deconditioned state it's puffing up. You have a couple of options here: either start conditioning your hair with a conditioner after each wash, or switch your shampoo to one that is milder with conditioning ingredients in it - personally I'd do both. It is not necessary to wash your hair every single day despite what the glossy shampoo ads might lead you to believe. If you had washed your hair the day before you may simply need to wet it in the shower and rinse it briefly with water. You are disturbing the natural level of oils in your hair which have the effect of weighing your hair down, without this your hair is free to puff up or be flyaway. Find a conditioner and/or conditioning shampoo that you think could be right for your hair type - and stop washing it so much! smile

Try putting olive oil on it.

Have you tried using gel or hairspray?

Get a glossing polish, like Redkens Gloss, or BioSilk Silk Thereapy. they work great and give good shine too!

You seam to have naturally dry, coarse, thick hair...which might seam like a curse, but if you know how to take care of it, you'll learn to love it!

First of all, DON'T WASH YOUR HAIR EVERYDAY. If you have dry, coarse hair, you should only wash it a couple times a week. When you wash your hair, it strips your hair of it's natural oils. And just a tip: When you wash your hair, it's best to wash it in cold water (as cold as you can handle) so that the shampoo won't get into your pores. And buy a good conditioner! Anything by Redken is good. Also, the Sunsilk anti-poof conditioner works well, even though it's targeted towards women.

Secondly...DON'T COMB YOUR HAIR so much. I know, first he tells you not to wash it, and now not to comb it. Here's the thing: Thick hair like yours usually tends to be curly. People have this mindset that all hair is straight and has to be combed, but the truth is, everybody's hair is different and needs to be treated differently. Get a good CREAM, not a gel. I change products a lot, but right now I'm using the conditioning cream by Garnier Fructis, and it works well. Apply cream to your hair when it's still a little damp, but not soaking wet. Get it all throughout your hair - make sure to get down to the roots. This is all using your hands - no comb! You can use a finger to twist pieces of hair into curly corkskrews. Finish by spraying on a hairspray specially made for curls - there are tons out there...Redken's is probably the best, but I can't afford it so I use on by Pantene.

If you follow those directions, your hair should go from wild and poofy to textured and curly. If you don't like curly hair, you could straighten it...I don't feel like explaining how to straighten this kind of hair right now, though, so just go with curly. You have natural curls. Trust me!

On the days you aren't washing it , wet it and put a bit of conditioner on the frizzy ends only.
